Part-Time Department: Parks Reports To: Parks Supervisor
Supervises: None Summary: The Park Maintenance Laborer / Parks
Grounds Maintenance I is responsible for performing general grounds
and park maintenance activities, including mowing, mulching,
weeding, edging, trimming, and repair of park elements. This
position is also responsible for maintaining tools and equipment,
performing preventive maintenance, and assisting with park setup
and takedown for special events. Work Schedule: This is a seasonal,
part-time position. Work hours vary based on operational needs and
may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

week of August 10-14 The pay range for this position is $16.36 -
$24.54. Starting pay is DOQ and will not exceed the midpoint of the
range. Essential Duties/Job Responsibilities: The following duties
are representative but not all-inclusive: Perform mowing and
trimming of turf areas using tractors, riding mowers, and small
power equipment. Conduct mulching, weeding, edging, trimming, and
general repair of park elements. Perform routine and preventative
maintenance on park grounds, turf areas, and athletic fields.
Assist with routine inspections of playgrounds and park amenities.
Assist with ice and snow removal operations as needed. Perform
custodial tasks on park grounds, including garbage pickup and
removal. Assist with seasonal operations, special projects, and
district-wide special events, including setup and takedown.
Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles; perform preventative
maintenance as assigned. Operate all equipment safely and
effectively in accordance with training and safety guidelines. Wear
required personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate to
assigned tasks. Maintain effective two-way communication with
supervisors regarding park conditions, maintenance needs, and
safety concerns. Communicate professionally with coworkers and
members of the public. Follow, implement, and enforce all policies,
procedures, and guidelines. Qualifications Qualifications: Minimum
age of 15 years. Valid work permit is required, if under 16 years.
Experience in park, recreation, facility, or general
grounds/landscape maintenance, repair, or construction preferred.
Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions
with minimal supervision. Valid Illinois driver’s license required,
if operating vehicles. Must be at least 16 years of age to operate
carts and at least 18 years of age to operate road vehicles.
Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical, drug test,
and hearing test. CPR/AED & First Aid certification is required
within 30 days . Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of
general grounds maintenance practices and equipment. Ability to
safely operate power tools, machinery, and maintenance equipment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong
communication skills and ability to interact professionally with
the public. Ability to follow safety procedures and exercise sound
judgment. Physical, Cognitive and Environmental Requirements:
Ability to walk long distances (over 800 yards) and stand for
extended periods (2–3 hours). Ability to stoop, bend, climb, reach,
and work on ladders, requiring balance, coordination, and
flexibility. Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment, tools, and
supplies. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions,
including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice. Exposure to
chemicals such as fertilizers, herbicides, fuels, pool chemicals,
and cleaning agents. Ability to work under occasional stress during
peak seasons, irregular hours, or overtime. Cognitive ability to
follow directions, safely operate equipment, and make sound
decisions.
