Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Med Surg - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 02/16/2026 - Duration: 13 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, nights - Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med/Surg Acute position on nights, requiring an active IL license and prior Level 1 trauma neuro unit experience. Responsibilities - Work in a 54-bed Neuro Med/Surg Acute unit in an acute care setting - Typical patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, neuroscience, and some medical overflow - Day shift nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5; night shift ratios are 1:5-6 - Floats in rotation with staff, both within the general unit and to other units as needed based on skill competency - 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and holiday required - Charge nurse and house supervisor present 24/7, with nurse aides and patient care techs available for support - Uses Epic EMR; prior experience with Epic preferred - Drip titration required, specifically heparin drips based on PTT; must have heparin gtt experience - Philips telemetry monitors are used, but nurses are not required to read their own strips - Main responsibilities include caring for neuro and neuroscience patients with complex and acute needs - Orientation includes two days of unit and computer training with educator and precepted patient care - No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings allowed during shifts - Does not require COVID vaccination for this role - Local rates apply to clinicians residing within 50 miles; no specific radius rule beyond this - Holiday and every other weekend coverage is mandatory - Supportive team environment with strong charge nurse, house supervisor, and aide/tech ratios Requirements - Active IL RN license must be in hand at time of consideration - Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications are required - At least 1 year of RN experience, including prior travel and dedicated neuro unit experience - Level 1 trauma experience required - Must have previous heparin drip titration experience - No first time travelers will be considered for this position - Must pass a drug screen prior to placement Benefits - High Pay and Bonuses - Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options - 401(k) Plan - Weekly Payroll Deposit - Free Online CEUs - Generous Housing Allowance - Travel and Licensure Reimbursements - Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy - Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-663419.
