Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional
caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a
designated time frame. The RN provides care to patients using the
nursing process, technology, and resources within the philosophy of
the institution. The RN performs all responsibilities and duties
required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. The RN
implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of
practice. The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of
nursing care provided to ensure integration of information for the
healthcare team. The RN completes initial assessments upon patient
admission and develops appropriate plans of care based on patient
and family needs. The RN implements plans of care, nursing
interventions, and patient care procedures. The RN modifies plans
of care based on continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility
for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting
safety hazards and incidents. The RN communicates directly and
privately when necessary to resolve issues. The RN offers
constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of
peers and confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base.
The RN identifies their own learning needs and takes initiative to
begin appropriate solutions. The RN fulfills all requirements of
departmental competencies. The RN completes initial assessments
upon patient admission to the rehabilitation unit and develops
appropriate rehabilitation plans of care based on patient and
family needs. The RN coordinates nursing care activities in
collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary
rehabilitation team to facilitate overall patient goals. The RN
implements procedures and theories related to rehabilitation
practice and scope of service. The RN shares information about
disease processes underlying disabilities and teaches nursing
techniques to help patients and families develop self-care skills
necessary for recovery. The RN participates in rehabilitation
rounds and team meetings. The RN reinforces teaching done by
therapy, provides resource materials for changing needs, and offers
ongoing patient education. The RN possesses the specialized
knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide care for
individuals with physical disabilities and chronic illnesses. The
RN fulfills all requirements of rehabilitation departmental
